(Ralph Ellis/ WebMD) —Researchers say obesity increases a person’s chances of becoming infected with coronavirus and raises the risk of several complications, including hospitalization and death.
People who are obese had a 46% higher chance of becoming infected than those who were not obese. There was a 113% higher risk for hospitalization, a 74% higher risk for ICU admission, and a 48% higher risk of death for people who are obese, the study published in the online journal Obesity Reviews said.
A research team at the University of North Carolina gathered those statistics after analyzing 75 studies conducted between January and June involving about 400,000 coronavirus patients, the online journal Obesity Reviews said. (…)
