Long COVID gets little attention in Quebec

(Jesse Feith/ Montreal Gazette) — Last December, when Dr. Anne Bhéreur contracted COVID-19 in the palliative care unit where she works, she expected to recover and be back among her patients within 10 days.

Nearly a year later, however, this still hasn’t happened for the 45-year-old family doctor.

Short of breath and with her vocal cords weakened, to this day Bhéreur can only speak in a whisper, taking sharp breaths between most words. Even simple daily tasks, from reading to taking the stairs, can cause debilitating fatigue.

On a good day, she feels about 10 per cent of her former healthy and energetic self. (…)
