(The Sun) —High blood pressure doubles the risk of dying from Covid-19, a study found.

But despite fears that medication used to treat the condition could increase susceptibility to infection, doctors found the opposite was true. Those who are not taking medication to control raised blood pressure are at even greater risk.

Researchers looked at nearly 3,000 patients admitted to a Wuhan hospital between February and March.

Study lead Professor Fei Li said those with high blood pressure “should take good care of themselves and they need more attention if they are infected”. The study found that nearly half of patients who had died from Covid -19 had high blood pressure.

Professor Fei Li said patients with a raised blood pressure need to “realise that they are at increased risk of dying from Covid-19.” (…)
